Planning a shoot in Finland? Twelve is a Helsinki-area production company that helps international crews get the job done here, as a local crew, a fully equipped production partner or a fixer who handles everything on the ground.
Finland is on more and more production schedules. Brands come for the clean Nordic look, documentary teams for the Arctic, and car and outdoor companies for the snow and ice that are hard to find anywhere else in Europe. The landscapes are stunning, but the distances are long, the weather is serious and the light changes dramatically through the year. A local partner who knows how things work here saves you time, money and a lot of stress.
How we can help
Twelve has produced video and photography in Finland for more than ten years. We adapt to your setup: some teams fly in with a full crew and need a local fixer, others travel light and want us to bring the cameras, drones and people.
- Fixer and local producer. Locations, permissions, accommodation, transport, local contacts and practical problem-solving before and during the shoot. We speak Finnish, English and the language of getting things done in a small country.
- Local crew. Camera operator, drone pilot, photographer or second unit, so you don’t need to fly everyone in.
- Our own equipment. Cinema-capable Sony cameras, DJI drones, lenses, audio and lighting, available as needed. Less to ship, fewer customs headaches.
- Full production. If you need a complete local team, we can plan, shoot and edit the whole project and deliver finished content.
- Video and stills together. We often shoot photography alongside video in the same production, which keeps budgets and schedules tight.
You get one point of contact who knows the country, the people and the conditions.
Lapland, nature and the sea
We know Finnish nature from experience, not from a brochure. We have filmed in Lapland and in the Finnish wilderness, and we know what it takes to keep a crew and its equipment working when it is -25 °C and the sun barely rises.
That means practical things: how batteries behave in the cold, how to protect gear from condensation, how far you can realistically drive in a winter day, and where to find the shot without walking a crew into trouble. It also means local contacts in the north, from accommodation to snowmobile and husky operators.
Nature in Finland is not only Lapland. We also work on the coast and the archipelago, with special experience in marine and offshore filming and sailing. Lakes, forests, frozen seas and the Helsinki cityscape are all within reach.
Good to know before you come
Finland gives you very different looks depending on the month. Timing is often the most important production decision.
| Season | What you get | Things to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Winter (Dec–Mar) | Snow, frozen lakes, blue hour light, northern lights in Lapland | Short days, polar night in the far north, extreme cold |
| Spring (Mar–May) | Bright snow and long days in Lapland, melting landscapes in the south | Changing road and ice conditions |
| Summer (Jun–Aug) | Midnight sun, green nature, archipelago and lakes | Mosquitoes in the north, busy holiday season in July |
| Autumn (Sep–Nov) | Ruska autumn colours, first northern lights, moody coastal weather | Rain, darkening days, early snow in Lapland |
A few practical points we help with:
- Permits. Filming in national parks and some protected areas may need permission. Drone flights follow EU rules and local restricted zones.
- Travel. Lapland is a short flight from Helsinki, but distances on the ground are long. We plan routes and backup days around the weather.
- Safety. Cold-weather clothing, guides and safety plans for remote locations.
- Budget. Using local crew and equipment usually costs less than flying everything in.
